Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cyanotype? Cyanotype is an early photographic printing process, invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, that produces a distinctive Prussian-blue print. It uses two iron salts to create a solution that reacts to UV light.
Is Cyanotype archival? Yes, Cyanotype can last for hundreds of years if kept in proper conditions. My Cyanotype photograms are made on acid-free, archival watercolour paper, but Cyanotypes, like most artwork, can fade if exposed to strong UV light. It is recommended not to hang or display them in direct sunlight, although a bright room is fine. A care note is included as standard with all my artwork.
Are artworks framed? Yes, if indicated on the artwork’s own sales page, it will specify the frame dimensions, material, colour, and aperture size. If the artwork is sold unframed, I am happy to discuss mounting and framing options with you.
Do you accept commissions? Yes, I am happy to accept commissions for delivery within the UK. There are some restrictions on the types of botanicals I can use; some do not work well, and others are only available during certain seasons. Let me know your ideas. Some clients prefer to supply their own botanicals; however, I do not accept Bridal Bouquet commissions.
What is your commission process? We would discuss expected delivery times. I would require a deposit, which is fully refundable if the final photogram is unsuitable. I would plan an initial design for approval, then send photos at all stages of work, confirm delivery time, and final costs.
Do your Photograms come with a Certificate of Authenticity? Yes, all my artwork is original UK-made art and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and Copyright. I do not sell prints/limited editions or copies of my artwork. Cyanotype on Fabric (in Hoops) and bookmarks do not come with a certificate
Do you have a newsletter? Yes, I have a quarterly newsletter that discusses new works, upcoming projects, Gallery showings, and Exhibition dates. (Sign-up link).
